Monsters in the Mansion: How to Cure the Monster

The full cure walkthrough for Monsters in the Mansion: hidden book routes, antidote brewing at the craft station, and landing the point-blank cure to win.

Last updated:

Curing the Monster is the win condition of Monsters in the Mansion. Survivors gather hidden books scattered through the mansion, brew them into an antidote at a fixed craft station, and apply the cure to the possessed player at close range. A clean cure ends the round as a Survivor win — there is no exit gate, and the round only ends when the antidote lands. This guide walks the full loop: collect, craft, cure.

Why this guide matters

The Monster wins by denying the cure, not by getting kills. If your squad only thinks about survival, you will survive a long time and still lose. Every round should be planned around the collect–craft–cure loop.

Step 1 — Collect the hidden books

Books spawn across the whole mansion, biased toward rooms the Monster patrols, and the spawn layout reportedly shifts between sessions — so learn the rooms each match rather than memorizing one fixed route. Books are the bottleneck of the entire game: without them there is no antidote, and with too few carriers there is no pace.

Recommended split for a seven-player squad:

RolePlayersJob
Book runners2–3Sweep assigned wings and carry books toward the craft
Noise-makers / decoys1–2Deliberately pull the Monster away from book rooms
Support & carrierremainderGuard objectives, protect the carrier, stage the craft

Two routing patterns work well from round one. Lane routing assigns each wing to a runner pair, forcing the Monster to choose which lane to cover — it cannot patrol every wing at once. Decoy routing sends one loud player through the Monster's patrol loop on a predictable, defensible path with a hiding spot at the end; the hiding spots guide lists safe exits per wing.

Books are team property

A player who grabs every book becomes the Monster's only target and stalls the craft. Distribute book duty, and consider banking books at a midpoint stash instead of funneling everything through one runner.

Step 2 — Brew the antidote at the craft station

The antidote is brewed at a fixed station somewhere in the mansion. Two facts shape everything around the craft: it requires enough books, and it is loud — the Monster hears the brewing and will push toward it.

Before you start the craft:

  1. Post a guard at the station itself.
  2. Place a second player between the station and the Monster's likely approach, ready to body-block.
  3. Announce the plan first — "crafting in five, guard the station, decoy to the hall" — so nobody learns about the brew from its noise.

Timing matters as much as protection. The strongest squads hold their books and wait for a calm window instead of crafting the moment the count is met. Crafting while the Monster is camped near the station converts your entire book bank into a trap for yourself. The delayed-cure tactic is covered in Tips & Advanced Play.

Step 3 — Land the cure at point-blank range

The antidote only works at close range; used from a distance it fails and exposes the carrier for nothing. The cure application takes roughly five seconds — the hardest five seconds of the round.

The standard play:

  1. Lure the Monster into a small room with one exit, using your decoy.
  2. The cure carrier waits at the threshold — not inside.
  3. When the Monster commits to chasing the decoy, the carrier darts in, applies the cure, and exits immediately.

If the Monster catches the carrier mid-ritual, the round is lost. That is why the decoy's timing and the carrier's patience matter more than any other single skill in the game.

Why there is no "safe" cure

Every step of the loop creates noise or proximity, and the Monster's whole kit is built to punish exactly that: it hunts by sound first and sight second, and a smart Monster patrols the quiet lanes where book runners work. The counter-play is coordination — one squad that talks through the loop beats seven individuals hiding brilliantly. The detection mechanics behind this are explained in How the Monster Detects You, and the hunter's counters in How to Play the Monster.

Common cure failures (and the fix)

FailureWhat happenedFix
Craft interruptedNo guard posted; Monster heard the brewAlways post a guard and a blocker before crafting
Zero-book roundsSquad hid all roundAssign book duty at spawn — a round with no books cannot be won
Wasted antidoteCarrier cured at max rangeClose to point-blank; lure with a decoy first
Carrier caught mid-ritualCure started while the Monster was nearDelay the craft until the Monster is committed elsewhere
Clumped squadAll seven on one book pileSplit wings; one runner per lane

Roles in the cure loop

The cure is why the Cure Carrier and Runner rank S-tier on our Survivor Tier List: the carrier ends the round and the runners feed it. Support craft-guarding is the quiet A-tier job that makes both possible. Loadout priorities per role — travel light for carriers, hide routes for runners — are in Perk Builds & Loadouts.

What's still unconfirmed

The exact number of books required for the antidote and the precise brew duration have not been published in Early Access. Treat any hard number from other sources as speculation; this page updates the moment official values appear (tracked in Patch Notes).
