Monsters in the Mansion Perk Builds & Loadouts
Practical Monsters in the Mansion builds: habit loadouts per role, blueprint builds for runner, decoy, craft-support and Monster, and the universal build rules.
Last updated:
There is no perk screen in Monsters in the Mansion yet — so a "build" today is the set of habits, keybinds and item priorities you commit to before the round starts. This page turns the confirmed effect categories into practical builds per role, and gives you the blueprint slots to fill the day real perks ship.
The universal loadout — every role, every round
- Push-to-talk, non-negotiable. Voice chat is audible to the Monster; open mic is how lobbies die.
- Quick-crouch bound to one reflexive key. Crouch-walking is your default movement.
- Flashlight off by default. A controlled light is a tool, not a beacon.
Build 1: The Runner — "collect books quietly"
Goal: avoid detection while covering the most ground.
- Core: sound discipline (quiet movement, no thrown items while hunting is active)
- Support: a fast hide option — know the nearest locker, bed gap or bookshelf in every room you sweep
- Strategy: clear one wing top to bottom, rotate when the Monster arrives rather than fighting, and bank books at midpoints instead of funneling them through one player
Runners feed the win condition, which is why the role shares S-tier with the carrier on the Survivor Tier List. Wing assignments and route theory are in the maps guide.
Build 2: The Decoy — "pull the Monster, then vanish"
Goal: draw attention deliberately and survive the bait.
- Core: controlled noise — sprint lines, door slams and thrown items on your schedule, not the Monster's
- Support: a rehearsed exit route with a hide at the end of every bait
- Strategy: bait, break line of sight, hide, hold still, then re-bait elsewhere. Vary the pattern — a Monster that learns your loop turns your bait into a trap
A strong decoy is the highest-variance asset in the game; the discipline rules that keep it on the right side of the variance are in Tips & Advanced Play.
Build 3: The Craft-Support — "protect the loud antidote"
Goal: keep the brew uninterrupted and the squad alive.
- Core: station-awareness — know the craft station's approach lanes before anyone starts brewing
- Support: revive timing in cleared areas, body-blocking position between the Monster and the station
- Strategy: position before the craft starts, never during. Call the cure early — "crafting in five, guard the station" — so the guard is walking before the noise begins
The craft is the loudest thing Survivors do all round, which makes this build the multiplier for the whole win condition (How to Cure the Monster).
Build 4: The Cure Carrier — "travel light"
Goal: land the point-blank antidote and walk away.
- Core: nothing that slows your approach — drop loot, keep hands free, know the threshold you will wait behind
- Support: a decoy you trust, and patience to cure on the bait's timing rather than your own
- Strategy: wait at the door while the Monster chases the bait, dart in on the commit, apply the roughly five-second cure, exit immediately
Build 5: The Monster — "area control and cure denial"
Goal: block books, punish noise, stop the cure.
- Core: detection play — lit-room sight control and ranged hearing, your whole kit is information
- Support: patrol-speed discipline — return to the book lanes fast instead of over-committing to chases
- Strategy: win by denying the cure, not by kill count; camp the craft approaches during the brew, and read the silence — the quiet lane is where the antidote is being built
The full playbook is in How to Play the Monster.
Universal build rules
- Commit to one plan. Hybrid builds fail; the game punishes players who are half-quiet and half-fast.
- Loud effects multiply. Noise sources stack against you — one loud habit plus one loud item is twice the radius, not one.
- Adrenaline-style panic buttons are for reaching a hide, never for escaping the map — there is no exit.
- Cosmetics count. Loud or glowing items near the Monster are loadout mistakes, not fashion.
When real perks ship, fill these slots
Each build above maps one-to-one onto the confirmed effect categories — sound-masking, speed/peel, crafting-proximity, detection — which are ranked on the Perks Tier List. When the perk screen arrives: runners take sound-masking + speed, decoys take noise control + peel, support takes crafting-protection, carriers take whatever keeps the approach fast, and the Monster takes detection. Until then, check the patch notes tracker — this page updates the week the system lands.
