Monsters in the Mansion Monster Guides Hub
The Monster hub for Monsters in the Mansion: playstyle, detection mechanics from the hunter's side, and the strategies that deny the cure — one player vs seven.
Last updated:
Welcome to the other side of the mansion. Playing the Monster in Monsters in the Mansion means one player against seven, hunting by sound and sight while seven Survivors try to brew an antidote and cure you. It is a position game, not a chase game — and this hub collects everything known about playing it well.
The Monster win condition
You do not win by getting kills. You win by denying the cure — punishing book runs, interrupting the loud craft, and pressuring the carrier so the antidote never lands. A Monster with six kills and a completed cure has lost.
What's in this section
- How to Play the Monster — patrol priorities, answering noise, blocking the craft, and exploiting light. The core strategy guide for the role.
- How the Monster Detects You — the full sense model: sound first, sight second, the exact behaviors that expose Survivors, and why darkness is your enemy.
The Monster identity in one table
| Aspect | Confirmed behavior |
|---|---|
| Role | One player per round is possessed by the Monster and hunts the other seven |
| Primary sense | Hearing — sprinting, open-mic voice, thrown items pull you toward noise |
| Secondary sense | Sight — flashlights and lit rooms reveal Survivors at distance |
| Patrol | Fixed pattern until triggered by sound or sight |
| Win condition | Deny the cure: starve the books, interrupt the craft, break the carrier |
| Strength | Detection and fear — area control, not stat-checked chases |
Start here if you're new to the role
Most new Monsters lose the same way: they chase one Survivor for the whole round while the other six finish the cure in peace. Your correction is the patrol discipline in How to Play the Monster — book-rich rooms first, silence-reading second, chases only when they buy you lane control.
Then learn what your senses actually register. Survivors fear your sight less than your ears, and the players who beat you are the ones managing noise, light and line-of-sight — the full detection rules in How the Monster Detects You tell you exactly what information you are being fed.
The counter-play you will face
Prepared squads run the tactics designed to beat you: delayed cures that wait out your patrol, decoys with rehearsed exits, book banking so one kill never wipes the supply, and craft-bait feints that drag you off the station. Each one has a counter — bait-pivots, pre-committing to the station, hunting the silence — collected in the strategies guide and the mirror Tips & Advanced Play page.
Numbers status
No Monster stats — speed values, hearing radius, sight range, ability cooldowns — have been published in Early Access. The mechanics on these pages are behavioral, not numeric, and they have been stable across the Early Access build so far. Any balance shift lands in the patch notes tracker, and the strategy pages update with it.
